What The FRCA is an app-based revision tool for the FRCA exam. At present it contains a question bank built for the Primary FRCA MCQ. It gives you 500+ Single Best Answer (SBA) questions mapped to the RCoA curriculum, timed mock exams, and progress tracking, so you can put your revision to the test and find your gaps before the exam does.

Do I need to create an account?

Yes. Creating a free account lets you start the trial, track your progress, and pick up where you left off across your devices. You don't need to enter any card details to start the free trial.

What's included in the free trial?

25 full SBA questions with detailed explanations and teaching points. Everything works exactly the same as the paid version, you're just limited to 25 questions.

What happens when my free trial ends?

Once you've used your 25 free questions, you can purchase full access to unlock the complete 500+ question bank and all mock exams. Your account stays the same, you simply continue where you left off.

How much does it cost?

We're currently running launch pricing while we grow the question bank: £19 for 1 month, £39 for 3 months, or £59 for 6 months. Every plan unlocks the full question bank and all mock exams, you're only choosing how long you need access.

How long does my access last?

Access starts as soon as you purchase, and runs for the length of the plan you choose, 1, 3, or 6 months. You can extend any time you need longer.

Will I be charged automatically?

No. Every plan is a one-time purchase, there's no subscription and no auto-renewal. When your access ends, it's entirely up to you whether to buy again.

Can I extend my access?

Yes. You can purchase additional access at any time, including before your current access ends, so there's no gap in your revision.

Payments are handled securely through Stripe, which accepts all major credit and debit cards.

What is your refund policy?

You can request a full refund within 48 hours of purchase, provided you have submitted no more than 25 answers since buying. After 48 hours, or once you have submitted more than 25 answers, your purchase is non-refundable. This does not affect your legal rights if the product is faulty or not as described.

How do the questions work?

Every question is a Single Best Answer (SBA): a stem or clinical scenario, a lead-in, and five plausible options. You choose the single best answer, then see a full explanation and a take-home teaching point, so you understand the why, not just the what.

Yes. You can build custom practice sessions filtered by category, difficulty, or your previous answers, so you can focus your revision exactly where it counts.

How does progress tracking work?

As you practise, the app tracks your performance across each category so you can see where you stand and watch your scores improve over time. It highlights the areas with the most room for improvement, so you always know what to tackle next.

I've spotted an error in a question. What should I do?

Please let us know using the flag option on the question itself. This allows you to tell us about your suggestion for improving the question and send this straight to us to review. Every question is written and reviewed by practising anaesthetists, but if something slips through, we want to put it right.

What devices does it work on?

What The FRCA works in any modern browser on desktop, laptop, tablet, and phone. Your progress syncs to your account, so you can move between devices and pick up where you left off.

Can I install it like an app?

What The FRCA needs an internet connection to load questions and track your progress, even once it's installed on your device.

How do I reset my password?

On the login screen, choose the password reset option and follow the instructions sent to your email. If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder, then contact us if it still hasn't arrived. You can also update your password in the 'My Account' section of the app.

Can I use my account on more than one device?

Yes. Log in with the same account on any device and your access and progress will be there.

The Primary FRCA is changing in 2027, is this still relevant?

Yes. The MCQ continues in its current form for sittings before the change, and What The FRCA is built for exactly that exam. From July 2027 the written paper becomes the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), a change in format, not in the core knowledge or SBA question style.
